About

My name is Gary Spreder (he/him) and I am a professional software engineer. I live in the Seattle area with my wife and an unreasonable number of cats.

Over the past 13 years I have served as a developer, a team lead, a product developer, a documentarian, a systems software architect, a consultant, and as an executive, all of which as different ways to serve one overarching goal:

I love making software and systems to make people and processes more productive. Libraries, build tools, and plugins to make happier more focused colleagues and customers who can build more, in less time, with greater confidence. Build and test automation to tighten feedback cycles. Quality, accessible documentation to reduce ramp-up times. Better processes for work, feature, and defect tracking so we can always prioritize. Purpose-built apps and that facilitate customer’s actual work; software is the tool we use to model, facilitate, and accelerate the more tangible work the hardworking members of society undertake every day.

Over these years I have done a lot of work that I am proud of, but all of it occurred behind closed doors. I have a lot of catching up to do.

I’m too private for social media, so this is my alternative. This humble site is just my place to capture the things I find noteworthy, and to do it in a place I might share with others. Ideally, some of it will also be of at least some small value to you, whichever wandering soul is taking the time to read this.

Thank you for your interest. Expect great things.
